Goods In Assistant - Furniture and Luxury Goods - London - up to £24,000 (V03567)

This company designs architecturally inspired furniture, lighting, upholstery and textiles, each one hand made by traditional British craftsmen. Often featured in the design press, their clients include top international decorators, hotels, restaurants and high profile retail customers.

Their Battersea distribution centre plays an important part in their production and delivery processes. This is where every item is delivered from workshops around Britain and carefully checked and photographed. Once an order has passed their QC checks it is ready for careful packing and shipping to addresses all over the UK, Europe and North America.

It is for this department that are now looking to recruit a new Goods In Assistant. Working with the QC Manager, this role will allow an opportunity to take on additional responsibilities as their Logistics operation and team grows in line with the rest of the business.

Duties and Responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing weekly goods-in reports
  • Liaising with Production Managers about when orders are on track and ready
  • Organising cost and time effective pick-ups from workshop
  • Ensuring delivery notes are correct
  • Unwrapping orders and co-ordinating returns for repairs
  • Checking items for damage
  • Ensuring there are drawings and samples of bespoke / custom orders
  • Photographing every order and uploading images to the server
  • Checking no parts are missing and logging QC results
  • Managing stock management system, adding stock to inventory
  • Managing and moving stock as required and packaging of lighting orders
  • Keeping the Warehouse tidy
  • Ensuring everything leaving has a signed collection note


Person / Experience Required:

  • Genuine interest in furniture and appreciation for the luxury marketplace
  • Good IT skills (Microsoft Office, stock management systems)
  • Flexible and an effective team player
  • Attention to detail
  • Great communication skills
  • Self-motivated and keen to progress

The designer will be responsible for developing and designing across all their products with key responsibilities to include:

  • Design development, including new product concepts and supporting hand sketches across upholstery and cabinetry
  • Autonomous production of detailed drawings using AutoCAD
  • Creating 3D renders using 3DS Max
  • Liaising with suppliers, with the potential for supplier visits within Europe and to the Far East
  • Creating assembly instructions

Person / Experience Required:

  • A keen creative eye with a passion for furniture and design
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience of producing detailed drawings of upholstery
  • AutoCAD and 3DS Max literacy
  • Able to see products through from conception to production
  • A good understanding of furniture production methods and materials and the UK furniture market
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • A determination for developing high quality products
  • Self-motivated with a can-do attitude

Detailed Job Description
We have an exciting opportunity to join our in-house design team. We are looking for a furniture design engineer who will work closely with the design team across a variety of projects. This will include sourcing & researching materials and developing collections for manufacturing within our UK factory and with our external partners globally.

Key Responsibilities / Main Duties:

  • Product Development
  • Working closely with the Concept Designer to produce detailed technical and component drawings taking projects from concept design through to working prototypes and final manufacturing
  • Liaising with the prototyping department to get full scale prototypes developed in line with manufacturing and design requirements
  • Working closely with internal and external manufacturing teams to ensure projects are successfully developed to final production
  • International travel to external manufacturing sites
  • Store Layouts / Exhibitions. Working from a creative brief to produce exhibition and store layouts, to include 2D plans and 3D visual representations
  • Managing the library of documentation for the Sales team to communicate visual brand presentation through retail channels
  • Candidate's Profile
  • The successful candidate for the Furniture Design Engineer role is likely to be a furniture design graduate, with some hands on experience either within furniture design, or within space layout roles. They will have solid experience within Adobe Creative Suite 6, particularly InDesign and Photoshop and will be comfortable using 3D applications including SolidWorks.
