With a production and technical design studio on site, they are seeking an experienced individual who can manage the team and is excited about working with the finest materials and exacting requirements needed in order to fulfil the design and brief.

This person will understand what is required to work at this level of the industry and is forward thinking and able to spot any potential problems before they occur.

Person / Experience Required:

  • Strong knowledge of furniture construction and a variety of materials
  • Excellent communication skills are of the upmost importance
  • Knowledge of other languages would be desirable (French, Italian or German)
  • Able to interpret sketches and drawings plus current or past experience of using Rhino
  • Able to mentor junior members of a team
  • The ability to multitask and project manage the production of limited edition / bespoke furniture

As one of the leading specialists in the design and manufacture of auditorium and concourse seating, this company work closely with their clients' architects to adapt existing seat designs or develop completely new seat designs. They also have a range of their own standard stacking chairs.

They are currently seeking an experienced Senior Design Engineer with a wide skill set who is able to work within a small multi-tasking environment.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Ensuring that all products are engineered properly from a prototyping perspective
  • The design of new seats, or mechanisms (e.g. tipping systems) that form part of a seat
  • Adapting existing designs to suit the particular requirements of a new client
  • Working with clients' architects, preparing optimised layouts of seats to meet legal, ergonomic and functional requirement
  • Project managing to ensure that the design cycle allows production targets to be met. This involves interaction with suppliers and sub-contractors

Summary of Requirements:

  • 5+ years' experience in design and production engineering
  • Good workshop prototyping skills and good problem solving skills
  • Experience of Bills of Materials
  • A practical knowledge of mechanical engineering conventions and practices particularly relating to welding, steel work, fixings etc.
  • Excellent proficiency with AutoCAD and SolidWorks
  • Creative, but blended with accuracy and attention to detail

Furniture and Joinery Designer - Berkshire - up to £25,000 (V03374)

This leading manufacturer of aesthetic, high quality bespoke joinery operates nationwide and offers total management of joinery packages, from initial site survey through to installation.

Due to an increase in business they are seeking a Technical Designer who can produce detailed 3D models, renders and 2D technical drawings of furniture and joinery via the draft stages. Once finalised, the drawings are then used for the manufacturing processes in their onsite factory and site fitting. Take offs for CNC milling and other outsourced material production, will also be required directly from the 3D models into a CAD format, so accuracy is vital.

Person / Experience Required:

This role would be ideal for a technical designer with experience of bespoke joinery and resistant materials, who is passionate about problem solving the complexities of bringing different materials together to realise the client's aspirations.

  • Experience of 3D packages is needed, SolidEdge would be a bonus, but SolidWorks is easy to transfer over from
  • Knowledge of Keyshot would be an advantage
  • Between 2 and 3 years' experience in bespoke furniture design / kitchen planning would be ideal
  • Knowledge of a wide range of materials will be beneficial as they deal with timber, panel products, solid surfaces, stone, glass and steel
  • Good at problem solving
  • A good sense of humour!
