Graduates
Graduates often have the hardest time of all when job hunting. Companies like the idea
of fresh and new ideas, but still seem to be asking for experience, particularly in CAD.
- We always suggest to graduates that if financially possible they go on a CAD course if they do not already have this skill. It shows a willingness to increase your skills and an interest in new technology.
- Look at your portfolio. One way to add to it while you are sending off your CV and awaiting responses is to create your own projects outside of college work. For instance look at your local high street and note the retail outlets, commercial offices, leisure centres and come up with a new design or new ideas for products and furniture. Include all the necessary working drawings, plans and colour visuals/perspectives of the finished scheme.
- Remember, enthusiasm counts for a lot. Any freelance or voluntary work helps to sell your skills and shows that you are serious.
- Show what have been your major design influences by way of mood boards or collages. This also makes a good talking point on interview
