The company is now looking for a Product Designer to join their small design team, primarily assisting with the design and development of the company's new product ranges. This will include producing concept renders, reverse engineering and product design plus the generation of technical drawings for manufacture. You will also be required to solve engineering problems should they arise and comfortably manage your own time and workload in a fast-paced design environment.

This is an exciting opportunity to be a part of a creative working environment, in a role that would offer an individual the chance to develop their own skills in the high-end interior industry.

Person / Experience Required:

  • Proven experience of working with SolidWorks and the Adobe Creative Suite, as well as the ability to produce complex technical drawings for manufacture
  • Previous experience in design for manufacture and a good knowledge of manufacturing techniques and materials
  • Experience of working with lighting products will be a distinct advantage
  • Able to communicate well to a wider team as well as to manufacturers
  • The ability to project manage and problem solve
  • Able to organise their own time to meet project deadlines
  • A keen eye for quality and design with great attention to detail

Detailed Job Description
We have an exciting opportunity to join our in-house design team. We are looking for a furniture design engineer who will work closely with the design team across a variety of projects. This will include sourcing & researching materials and developing collections for manufacturing within our UK factory and with our external partners globally.

Key Responsibilities / Main Duties:

  • Product Development
  • Working closely with the Concept Designer to produce detailed technical and component drawings taking projects from concept design through to working prototypes and final manufacturing
  • Liaising with the prototyping department to get full scale prototypes developed in line with manufacturing and design requirements
  • Working closely with internal and external manufacturing teams to ensure projects are successfully developed to final production
  • International travel to external manufacturing sites
  • Store Layouts / Exhibitions. Working from a creative brief to produce exhibition and store layouts, to include 2D plans and 3D visual representations
  • Managing the library of documentation for the Sales team to communicate visual brand presentation through retail channels
  • Candidate's Profile
  • The successful candidate for the Furniture Design Engineer role is likely to be a furniture design graduate, with some hands on experience either within furniture design, or within space layout roles. They will have solid experience within Adobe Creative Suite 6, particularly InDesign and Photoshop and will be comfortable using 3D applications including SolidWorks.

Their unique selling point is that they have the ability to customise or bespoke make their products to clients' needs and seek a Technical Lighting Designer who can build relationships with their workshops as well as ensuring drawings are accurate for manufacture.

This is a growing sector for them so they need someone who has both the passion and enthusiasm for lighting mechanics and design, to assist and guide the Creative Director on what is possible on new designs. The day-to-day responsibilities for this role will be to work on drawing up all the current designs onto SolidWorks and ensure documents are maintained and kept up to date. You will also be working with the sales team to provide technical solutions to their custom and bespoke orders.

This role would really suit someone who also wants to expand on their skills into furniture manufacture.

Person / Experience Required:

  • A minimum 3-5 years' professional experience with some worked in a lighting manufacturing environment
  • Experience of both mechanical and electrical engineering and capable of working under your own initiative
  • An understanding of a wide variety of manufacturing methods and processes
  • Technical and commercial understanding of furniture construction would be an advantage
  • Able to demonstrate familiarity with the complete design process including scale, proportion and ergonomics
  • Proficient in SolidWorks, Photoshop and SketchUp software
  • Strong Excel skills and Microsoft Office skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal to communicate clearly and warmly with colleagues and their workshops
  • Immaculate attention to detail and able to multitask / time manage
  • A current driving licence would be an advantage
