Kitchen Sales Designer - London - up to £35,000 (V03875)

This opportunity is for an enthusiastic and experienced Kitchen Designer to join an exciting and ambitious kitchen business in their London showroom. The company has the industry's best partnerships with world leading appliance, storage and material brands and offer fantastic in-house training, as well as a highly attractive commission structure and the opportunity to thrive and develop.

Based in their award winning and inspirational showroom you will work closely with clients to craft entirely unique designs to suit and enhance their lifestyles. They have significant and on-going investment in marketing activities resulting in high quality leads where you can be responsible for the end-to-end customer experience from initial design concepts, through to completion of sale.

They are open to either an experienced candidate or a more junior one although you will still need to have had exposure to the luxury end of the marketplace. Working from their showroom you will be able to offer a diverse and extensive range of design choices and clients can see their designs come to life in the interactive 4D virtual reality theatre.

Experience and skills needed for the Kitchen Designer:

  • Highly personable and a great communicator
  • A creative designer with a passion for kitchen design
  • At least 2 years in premium kitchen design
  • Experience in coordinating the customer journey from concept to sale
  • Ability to liaise with consumers, trade and commercial clients on a daily basis
  • Strong design ability and design software aptitude
  • Self-motivated with the ability to both self-manage and work as a team player

Salary will be £35k for the more experienced role and £25k for the junior role, both with uncapped commission.

This Interior Design Consultancy specialises in designing and installing interiors for Showhomes, Hotels, Retirement Homes, Marketing Suites, Private Clients and supplying Furniture Packages. They have a team of talented in-house professionals which includes designers, soft furnishers, stylists, picture-framers and fitters and are now seeking an additional Business Development Manager to be based out for their offices but working nationally. You will also be responsible for a Business Development Assistant.

Your role will be a combination of winning new business and account management and the position comes with a car as, under normal conditions, it is likely to be a 50/50 split between office and travel. They are a very family-friendly business and flexible about working hours, have a good company pension scheme, a group company bonus paid twice yearly and staff discounts from suppliers. All of this contributes to a low turnover of staff and repeat business from their clients.

Skills and Experience needed for the Business Development Manager role:

  • Knowledge of the Interior Design marketplace
  • Strong sales and negotiating skills
  • Effective and solid communication skills
  • Good IT skills as required by the job and updated as necessary
  • Current Driving Licence
  • Able to and understanding the need for achieving Gross Profit and Sales Targets
  • Able to demonstrate success in managing client accounts
  • Must be competent at writing business letters with good spelling and grammar
  • Ability to understand the principles of basic business finance
  • Self-driven and results oriented with a positive outlook and able to forward plan

They are currently looking to expand their team with a Kitchen Designer with experience of the middle to upper sectors of the kitchen marketplace. Further training can be provided.

Person / Experience Required:

As a product designer, you'll create a range of consumer items including equipment, apparel and accessories. You will work on new products, and seek to develop existing ones, using your understanding of technology, materials and manufacturing methods.
You will be working in the design studio putting together a design proposal for projects and then following through from concept to manufacture.

Responsibilities also include:

  • Working on ideas using CAD
  • Sketching initial design ideas and using the 3D printer to test ideas
  • Identifying the suitability and availability of materials
  • Producing detailed drawings and design specifications, including parts lists and costings
  • Testing the design concept, researching materials, processes or market requirements
  • Occasional travel to offices in China and Japan to assist in the development process as required
  • Making presentations to senior management, to present design proposals

Person / Experience Required:

  • A Product Industrial Design Engineering degree with 3 years' post-graduate experience
  • A high degree of technical knowledge balanced with creative ability and a hands-on approach
  • Commercial awareness
  • Proficiency in CAD, Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator
  • Familiarity with the capabilities and limitations of CNC machining & injection moulding
  • Knowledge of industrial processes, techniques and standards
  • A willingness to build and maintain positive working relationships and to share information with others

They are based near the Hertfordshire and Essex borders with good train links. A social company they arrange free trips and lunches regularly for their staff.

Everything they design is completely bespoke, and their 12,000sq.ft. modern workshop houses a dedicated team of cabinet-makers and finishers.

They are currently seeking to fill a key role for the business so the successful candidate will need plenty of experience within the furniture and joinery sector in a client facing role.

It is important that you have knowledge and a firm grasp of historical furniture and architectural details both in a classical and contemporary setting.


Other skills and experience:

  • Proven experience within the interiors marketplace, able to sketch out designs freehand and draw up space plans using AutoCAD
  • Strong leadership skills and communication skills
  • Confident in handling client presentations in a client facing role
  • An ideas person with good listening skills and the ability to generate concepts sympathetic to the client’s needs and home

In order to develop further, they are seeking a dedicated sales manager / account manager with the main remit to help in securing new business from the mid-range market with national housebuilders and developers nationwide.

They are looking for someone already working within the design or property development industry with a proven track record in sales. They may consider a designer however who is ready to move their career forward into a new business development role and has strong client liaison, negotiating and sales skills.


Requirements for the Sales Manager:

  • Proven experience with selling to the interiors marketplace
  • A strong appreciation or past experience within design
  • Experienced in handling and presenting to clients
  • Organised and numerate with strong administrative skills for keeping records / diary entries
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills (oral, written and presentational)
  • Happy to travel nationwide but to visit their studio in the Midlands regularly
  • Able to operate self-sufficiently in a partly field based role
