Known for their sophisticated luxury chic to match their clients' lifestyles, they are currently seeking a Designer and Specifications Assistant who is still early on in their career and can work alongside the studio's Founder and assist with both UK and International projects.

This would suit a designer with a genuine interest in art history and galleries.

Position requirements:

  • A minimum of 1 year gained experience on luxury residential projects
  • Knowledge of furniture artists, galleries and art deco design
  • Fabric specification and procurement experience
  • Able to understand and read space plans, floor finish plans, ceiling plans, elevations and details from architect drawings


Position overview:

  • Assisting in fabrics selections, liaising with fabric suppliers and maintaining the fabrics library
  • Assisting with preparation and development on projects with images, material & mood boards and other documents relating to the design.
  • Assisting with accurate estimates, quotations and invoicing documents
  • Attending client meetings with the responsibility of note-taking and supporting the studio team

This international interior design consultancy handles high-end residential and commercial projects across the globe.

Both their residential and hospitality teams are extremely busy at the moment and they are looking for a new Design Librarian, someone with an excellent and in depth knowledge of suppliers for all aspects of interior design from Fabrics and Finishes to Carpets and Ironmongery. Ideally this could be an experienced Senior Designer who is looking for a less stressful role.

They are open to a flexible working week for the right person. This is not a role that will lead to a position as an Interior Designer however there will be plenty of opportunity to work with the Designers on specific projects, sourcing specific samples and offering advice and assistance.

The aim of this role is the overall supervision and organisation of an extensive library resource centre for the Design and Hospitality Departments. As Librarian you will assume ownership and responsibility for the materials and supplier information being collected, categorized, shared and stored in a user-friendly manner. In addition you will proactively develop ways to service a busy and demanding design team working on a diverse range of fast pace projects. As one of the key interfaces between the Company and the design industry it is imperative that the role is carried out to the highest professional standards.

SMC are looking for a Senior Interior Designer and Project Manager to expand their current creative team as client work load increases.

As a Senior Interior Designer / Project Manager you would have successfully lead a team from inception to completion for a period of 10 years, demonstrating your proven skills at delivering exceptional design, with experience of working on site. Educated to degree or diploma level, applicable knowledge of project management methodologies would be advantageous.

Skills:

  • Ability to create and develop conceptual designs including the skill of using colour and texture
  • Advanced skills in VectorWorks, Photoshop, SketchUp and MS Office
  • Knowledge of FF&E selection (materials, finishes, detailing and scheduling)
  • Experience in using CAD software fluently
  • Some knowledge of Studio software would be advantageous
  • Self-confident and receptive to constructive feedback
  • Ability to manage time, generate/manage schedules and work flow of projects efficiently
  • Quality experience dealing with contractors and sub-teams on site including Architects and Engineers
  • Excellent communication skills including verbal, written and visual

Responsibilities:

  • Managing a project efficiently, to program and budget

Within a small team, the candidate will work closely with the Design Director and Founder on a range of high-end residential projects across the South East and specialise in period properties. The office is located near excellent travel links with two rail stations and good main road connections.

Job Description:

  • Producing drawings and presentation documents to include bespoke joinery designs
  • Sampling for projects and creating sample trays and displays for client presentations
  • Presenting to clients, both with the Director and independently after a period
  • Site visits to undertake measurements, surveys and oversee installations
  • Liaising with suppliers and contractors
  • Attending design exhibitions and networking events on behalf of the company

The successful candidate will have creative flair, a positive attitude and an upbeat personality that will contribute to the team culture of the studio. Person / Experience Required:

  • Between 1-4 years' experience on high-end interior design to include residential

A permanent position has arisen at SMC Design to take ownership of the senior FF&E responsibilities on a variety of projects. For this role it is crucial that the candidate is competent working with minimal over-seeing, producing a high quality of work.

This role is now available due to continued success and we are looking for an enthusiastic, creative and organised FF&E Designer to work on high-end marine interior design projects, liasing with suppliers and working to a clients needs and aspirations. Project involvement is from conception through to completion and the candidate will join projects at a variety of stages along the way to perform this dynamic and fast-paced role.

Experience in delivering FF&E packages for large-scale commercial projects (eg hotels/cruise ships) is essential, as well as impeccable organisational, research and communication skills.

The ideal candidate must be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Proficiency in Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Excel, and confidence in using an Apple Mac computer. Familiarity with navigating VectorWorks is a bonus but not essential.
  • An extensive understanding of finishes, furniture and lighting, with a fantastic eye for the finer details.
  • Experience completing specifications to a high standard of clarity.
  • An ability to interpret a brief and design schemes for a wide variety of clients tastes, brand identities or requirements.
  • An ability to research for and create strong mood boards.
  • An ability to create sample boards for client presentations.
  • An understanding of controlling budgets, as well as an enjoyment of problem solving and fulfilling proposed concepts within budget.
  • An ability to work as part of a larger team, but also independently on projects where required.
  • An ability to hit the ground running and be self motivated, supported by their previous experience taking ownership of the FF&E on projects.
  • Excellent written, visual and verbal communication skills, for succinctly communicating concepts and information to a variety of people involved in the project: in house, external 3D visual artists, clients and contractors. Strong English is essential.


A positive attitude towards mucking in will be expected, as the FF&E team all help out with keeping the library and layout area tidy and functioning! It is also essential that the candidate is able to travel (often at short notice) to locations within the UK and abroad. 8 to 10 years experience is sought and in return a competitive salary will be offered, negotiable depending on experience.
