Furniture & Interior Concept Designer - South West England - negotiable (V03881)

This company specialises within interior architecture for historical and period properties. They work directly with their clients who come to them for their expertise and beautiful pieces of furniture, joinery and workmanship for their Country and London Town Houses across the UK and abroad.

They currently have an opening for a Concept Designer who has both a creative and organised mind and who understands residential interiors incorporating luxury bespoke furniture and joinery.

The ideal candidate will have interior design background and an illustrative talent, with a genuine interest in period buildings and fitted furniture. The role would primarily involve putting together design presentations to clients, compiling technical drawings, floor plans and layouts, moodboards, product specifications and reference imagery into a digital document and producing striking three-dimensional visualisations.

Other duties for the Furniture & Interiors Concept Designer might involve:

  • Research into architectural / furniture details, commercial appliances, decorative furnishings, materials and specialist manufacturers
  • Working with the team to provide costings and a budget
  • Contacting suppliers to organise samples and material palettes
  • Taking part in client meetings and making modifications to the concepts

Key Requirements for the Furniture & Interiors Concept Designer:

  • Interior design experience already gained with bespoke furniture and/or joinery
  • Knowledge of different materials
  • A creative, enquiring mind and an interest in historical research of architecture and period properties
  • Strong hand drawing and illustrative skills
  • Able to use AutoCAD and SketchUp
  • Ideally also able to use Photoshop, InDesign and ProCreate or Sketchbook
  • Commercially minded and numerate

Our client, a Chelsea Flower Show gold medallist, is a garden design and build practice, well-known for their small city gardens and loving the opportunity to bring greenery and wildlife back to urban spaces. They also create anything from a traditional formal garden to bringing contemporary flair to a countryside home.

Bespoke projects require careful and considered detailing. This entails producing a wide range of plans including 3D visuals, planting plans, construction details, lighting plans and irrigation plans. This is all coordinated in-house by their skilled and dedicated team for which they are recruiting a VectorWorks CAD Technician.

You will be working out of their offices in South Hertfordshire, just inside the M25.

Duties will include:

  • Drawing and specifying landscape plans for construction and tender as well as providing 3D visuals
  • Preparing a wide range of other plans such as planting plans, construction details, lighting and irrigation plans
  • Dealing directly with clients to facilitate plan changes and updates as well as managing deadlines

Person / Experience Required:

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience using VectorWorks and fluent with its application
  • SketchUp knowledge would be an advantage
  • Planting knowledge and a sound working knowledge of landscape construction is preferable
  • Confident in client management
  • Close attention to detail is imperative
  • Able to work well independently and be able to follow direction
  • Confident working in a small office environment with a strong team focus of hard work and conscientiousness

Having recently won some exciting new projects they are looking for an additional Interior Designer to join their team at a mid-weight level.

Their designers are expected to be able to reflect their clients' interests and individual tastes creating projects that have character and are full of life. You will be knowledgeable about colour, fabrics, furniture and design styles coupled with spatial awareness and the ability to put together comprehensive mood boards and design schemes before seeing the project through to completion.

The Interior Designer should have several years’ experience within the residential design sector and display:

  • An industry qualification to degree level
  • Proficiency in CAD (preferably VectorWorks)
  • Evidence of project management experience; liaising with clients, trades and suppliers
  • Experience of working on detailed FF&E documents
  • Confidence in creating successful fabric and colour schemes

This Interior Design Consultancy specialises in designing and installing interiors for Showhomes, Hotels, Retirement Homes, Marketing Suites, Private Clients and supplying Furniture Packages. They have a team of talented in-house professionals which includes designers, soft furnishers, stylists, picture-framers and fitters and are now seeking an additional Business Development Manager to be based out for their offices but working nationally. You will also be responsible for a Business Development Assistant.

Your role will be a combination of winning new business and account management and the position comes with a car as, under normal conditions, it is likely to be a 50/50 split between office and travel. They are a very family-friendly business and flexible about working hours, have a good company pension scheme, a group company bonus paid twice yearly and staff discounts from suppliers. All of this contributes to a low turnover of staff and repeat business from their clients.


Key Purpose of the Business Development Manager role:

  • Agreeing sales targets and implementing a strategy that achieves or exceeds these targets
  • Delivery of successful repeat business, retention and referral rates
  • Negotiation of achievable project budgets with customers
  • Maintaining and further populating the computerised customer and prospect database (ACT)
  • Maintaining and further developing existing customer relationships and new accounts

Person / Experience Required:

  • Knowledge of the Interior Design marketplace
  • Strong sales and negotiating skills
  • Effective and solid communication skills
  • Good IT skills as required by the job and updated as necessary
  • Current Driving Licence
  • Able to and understanding the need for achieving Gross Profit and Sales Targets
  • Able to read plans and layouts
  • Able to demonstrate success in managing client accounts
  • Must be competent at writing business letters with good spelling and grammar
  • Ability to understand the principles of basic business finance
  • Self-driven and results oriented with a positive outlook and able to forward plan
  • Mature, credible and comfortable dealing with clients at all levels

Regular travel to clients, trade shows and to visit Head Office in Italy will be expected so the ability to speak Italian will be a distinct advantage.
