In the world of space planner recruitment, certain things never go out of style. For one, virtually every business project – no matter the size – will require the attention of a qualified space planner. Whether working as a dedicated individual for a larger project, or blending your skills into the more general role of interior designer for a smaller contract, space planning jobs are as essential now as they've ever been.

Careers in space planning follow a number of paths. Our list of clients includes facility management consultancies, office fitters, and workplace consultants, all of whom are on the lookout for space planners to add value to their core team. Additionally, in a world of pop-up shops and micro-ventures, micro space planners are seeing an increased demand for their services.

While specific experience and qualifications will vary from posting to posting, most employers expect a good and verifiable history in space planning or an associated field. Skills you will be expected to demonstrate include production of floor plans – both 2D and 3D – 3D animated walkthroughs, familiarity with CAD software, and some knowledge of risk assessment (as it pertains to space planning), among others.

Good communication and presentation skills are a must, as you need to be able to explain you floor plans and walkthroughs to a variety of audiences, depending on the position you’re after.
