Pippa Baker / Principal Consultant
Pippa has worked in the recruitment industry since 1988 and the vast majority of this time has been within the design sector. She graduated from Leeds University in Textile Management and worked at John Heathcote & Sons before changing career direction and has headed a team of consultants and administrators at Careers in Design since 2000. Pippa is a keen artist and squash player.

As the interior design sector as a whole appears to blossom, there are two areas of particular interest for applicants. Both kitchen designer jobs and bathroom design jobs have increased considerably of late, with many companies, both large and small, looking to recruit talented and original staff to fulfil these roles.

Some of these companies are small, independent studios who cater for high-end clients looking for an all-in-one, unique kitchen design solution. At the other end of the market, we have the large national and international kitchen and bathroom retailers and outfitters who are on the lookout for kitchen sales designers who can handle sales, create stylish, attractive, and timeless pieces suitable for the mass consumer market, and provide exceptional customer service. Somewhere between the two, we find bespoke craftsmen – cabinetmakers, bath makers, and the like – who create one-of-a-kind pieces of furniture for use in the bathroom or kitchen, that are as much a work of art as a functional item of room decoration.

At Careers in Design, we post vacancies from all of these potential employers and many more. Though their target audience and their method of approach may differ from one another, as a kitchen designer your role will involve many of the same duties. You will be expected to liaise with customers in a client-facing role and to produce an effective design based on their specifications.

You will be expected to be familiar with popular CAD software, capable of producing both 2D and 3D examples of your concept. You may well be working as part of a team with space planners, lighting designers, and the like, so teamwork and good communication skills are a must.

Finding kitchen designer jobs and bathroom design jobs on our site is a simple matter of using the drop-down menus at the top of the page.

For the latest vacancies, sign up with Careers in Design today, and let us help you make it a reality.
