Product Designer - Essex - up to £40,000 (V03977)

As a product designer, you'll create a range of consumer items including equipment, furniture and accessories. You'll work on new products and seek to develop existing ones using your understanding of technology, materials and manufacturing methods. 
 
You'll be working in the design studio putting together design proposals for projects and then following through from concept to manufacture.
 
Responsibilities for the Product Designer also include:
  • Working on ideas using CAD 
  • Identifying the suitability and availability of materials
  • Producing detailed drawings and design specifications, including parts lists and costings
  • Testing the design concept by researching materials, processes or market requirements
  • Occasional travel to offices in China and Japan to assist in the development process as required
  • Making presentations to senior management to present design proposals
 
Skills required for the Product Designer role:
  • A Product / Industrial Design / Engineering degree
  • A high degree of technical knowledge balanced with creative ability and a hands-on approach
  • Commercial awareness
  • Proficiency in CAD, Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator
  • Familiarity with the capabilities and limitations of CNC machining & injection moulding
  • Knowledge of industrial processes, techniques and standards
They work on flexi & core hours, would prefer a designer who does not need to relocate and the salary will be up to £40k depending upon experience. They also have regular socials plus free lunch events.

Mechanical Engineer - Hampshire - up to £32,000 (V03976)

Our client specialises in the design and manufacture of very high-quality lighting & furnishing products and with a recent look at their company’s needs, they have created the new role for a Mechanical Engineer to the Engineering Controller and act as the business’s mechanical and engineering “go to”. 
 
You will be responsible for mechanical and engineering integrity within the company’s product range. Participating in the development of existing and new products, ensuring product quality and engineering performance. Experience in engineering within the consumer product industry would be an advantage.
Key tasks for the role of Engineering Controller:
  • Ownership and responsibility of engineering and mechanical performance of the product range
  • Assessment and management of release process of NPI and sustainment products
  • Feedback and collaboration with key suppliers on technical product development matters 
  • Specification of test requirements and development and execution of prototype testing
  • Help generate and improve supporting processes and documentation within the product development and technical teams
  • Producing 3D and 2D CAD drawings
  • Preparing and presenting information, ideas and data to Internal Customers 
Key skills and experience needed for the role of Engineering Controller:
  • 4+ years’ experience in an applicable engineering development role
  • Good level of competence with 2D & 3D CAD Packages (SolidWorks, Fusion 360 or Siemens NX)
  • Detailed knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes 
  • Competence and understanding of Mechanical Engineering principles
  • Knowledge of other applicable software tools such as Finite Element Analysis, Fluid Flow analysis
  • The ability to communicate effectively at all levels
  • A solution focused approach to all tasks and challenges with the dedication to manage to a full conclusion
  • Commercially aware 
  • Motivated - looking for career advancement and sees the opportunity to grow within their business
Renumeration will be in the range of £28k to £32k.

They are looking for a dedicated and multi-skilled candidate capable of working across numerous projects simultaneously and who has a keen interest in the creative industries. As Senior Designer you will oversee the delivery of your designs from start to finish as well as providing support for the wider design and pitch teams.
 
The ideal candidate will enjoy creating bespoke concepts and have the confidence to move a design forward with a positive can-do attitude. The role requires an organised individual, proficient in producing clear design direction to guide the development and build of their bespoke designs of varying scale and complexity. It is essential that the candidate has worked in a design-to-build environment and will be confident liaising with other departments as part of the design and production process.

  • Strong and clear verbal communication and presentation of designs

Technical Production Assistant - Props + Events - Essex - up to £28,000 (V03942)

Providing a range of services from exhibition stands, product launches and bespoke sampling stands to PR stunts, sampling bins and giant props, the company is theatrical in its approach and enjoys encouraging both clients and staff to be different.
 
Based near the Essex and Hertfordshire borders, they are currently looking for a Technical Production Assistant to support the Production Team. You will be creating CAD drawings, art working, proposals, pitch work and design costing. You will also be project managing smaller projects from brief through to delivery, ensuring successful realisation of projects adopting a hands-on approach to working in the production workshop.
 
Other duties for the Technical Production Assistant include:
  • Design interpretation, creating mood boards if required and basic visualisations
  • Performing practical tasks in the workshop such as prop making, finishing, vinyling, painting, sewing and basic carpentry
  • Creating CNC files and supervising CNC machining when required 
  • Assisting with the creation of content for social media posts and stories 
  • Assisting with the recruitment of new subcontractors, updating availability / task sheets and bookings
  • Liaising with suppliers  
 
Skills and experience needed for the Technical Production Assistant:
  • Experience of using a CAD software package, CNC and Adobe Illustrator
  • Good administration and project management skills
  • Able to demonstrate a hands-on approach at all times 
  • A team worker, highly organised and flexible in their approach
  • An understanding of the fast paced, ever-changing demands of high-end brands and clients 
  • Be health and safety compliant at all times

Our client specialises in playground equipment and manufactures in-house, supplying a broad spectrum of clients including landscape architects, play companies and Councils. You will find their products in public parks, offices, private houses and destination locations all around the world.

They are currently looking for a creative Product Designer with a good technical ability and working knowledge of SolidWorks to join their team and contribute high quality, innovative designs. They are open to either a recent graduate with some industrial experience or a " 2nd jobber", someone who can work on their own initiative and develop within this role. They are based near a main station with good transport links.

Key roles and responsibilities for the Product Designer include:

  • Project management, working with the support of the team
  • Employing strong modelling skills, production of technical drawings for manufacture and renders for presentations
  • Developing bespoke product designs that can be manufactured efficiently and cost effectively
  • Modifications to the existing standard product range
  • Ensuring efficient and timely completion of projects, anticipating issues and proactively working to resolve them
  • Liaising with customers and suppliers on a daily basis both in person and by telephone / email
  • Being involved in costings and ordering

Skills and Experience needed for the Product Designer role:

  • Conversant with SolidWorks
  • Product Design degree or similar
  • Experience of manufacturing processes for sheet metal and wood
  • Strong modelling and technical skills
  • Adobe Creative Suite with AutoCAD being an advantage
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Detail orientated and numerate
