Our client is one of the leading specialists in the design and manufacture of auditorium and concourse seating. They work closely with a client's architect to adapt their existing product portfolio, tailored to specific project requirements.
 
With new management forging the next chapter, they are seeking a Project Design Engineer with a wide skill set and able to work within a small multi-tasking environment.
 
Responsibilities for the Project Design Engineer will include:
  • Ensuring that all products are engineered properly from a prototyping perspective
  • Working with client architects, preparing optimised layouts of seats to meet legal, ergonomic and functional requirements
  • Adapting the existing product portfolio to suit specific client or project requirements
  • Developing, optimising and value engineering the product portfolio to introduce new designs and ensuring material and production efficiency.
  • Project management and liaising with architects, building contractors, end clients, manufacturing partners and sub-contractors
Skills and Experience for the Project Design Engineer:
  • 2+ years’ experience in design and production engineering
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks and AutoCAD
  • Knowledge of Revit and BIM standards would be an advantage
  • Willingness to visit sites, carry out site surveys and manage installation work
  • Creative, but blended with accuracy and attention to detail
  • Good problem-solving skills and an inquisitive and enquiring mind
  • A practical knowledge of mechanical engineering conventions and workshop prototyping
Salary & Benefits:

Our client is a designer and manufacturer of office furniture with a variety of product ranges including desks, storage units, lockers, tables, upholstered privacy screens and acoustic breakout furniture.
 
They are currently looking to expand their design team with a creative Product Designer to work with the development team on new products for their ranges. They are open to a hybrid working arrangement with 3 days in the office and 2 working from home.
 
You will be working from a brief and seeing products through from concept to manufacture. 
 
Day-to-day duties for the Product Designer will include:
  • Generating design concepts from a brief and detailing the design
  • Designing within manufacturing capabilities
  • Liaising with external suppliers
  • Creating robust SolidWorks parts, assemblies, technical drawings and general arrangement drawings
  • Prototyping and product testing / evaluation
  • Creation of concept and product visuals
  • Product costings
 
Skills and Experience sought from the Product Designer:
  • SolidWorks proficiency (they also use SWOOD)
  • 3DS Max / V-Ray and AutoCAD / DraftSight would be an advantage but training can be given
  • 3+ years' working professionally in a relevant design-based role
  • A creative, technical and enquiring mind
  • Initiative and strong problem-solving abilities
  • A good understanding of design for manufacture
  • Experience with furniture / upholstery / sheet metal components would be beneficial, but not a necessity
 
Salary and Benefits:
A salary of between £30k and £35k is on offer along with a workplace pension scheme. Hours are 8.30am to 5pm (Monday to Thursday) and 8.30am to 3pm (Fridays).

CAD Design Draughtsperson - Hybrid - South Yorkshire - up to £32,000 (V04023)

Our client is a designer and manufacturer of office furniture with a wide variety of product ranges including desks, storage units, lockers, tables, upholstered privacy screens and acoustic breakout furniture. They have a showroom in London, but it is for their Head Office and Factory in South Yorkshire that they are seeking a CAD Design Draughtsperson to assist with the production and development of products.
 
You will be working within the design team using SolidWorks to develop products and generate 3D CAD files, technical drawings, assembly visuals and bills of materials for products and parts from across the breadth of their product ranges. You will see products through from drawing to manufacture, liaising with on-site manufacturing, production and administrative teams. 
 
Prototyping new products and product testing will also be part of the role as will the creation of product costings for product launches and special enquiries. They are open to a hybrid working model with 3 days in the office and 2 days at home.
 
Skills and Experience sought for the CAD Design Draughtsperson:
  • SolidWorks fluency, with a 2D CAD package such as AutoCAD or DraftSight an advantage
  • IT literate with knowledge of MS Excel
  • A technical and enquiring mind with good problem-solving abilities
  • At least 3 years' working professionally in a design or draughting based role
  • An understanding of design for manufacture using woodworking CNCs and machinery advantageous, as would designing fabricated sheet metal components
Salary and Benefits:

Well-known for creating finely detailed and high-quality commercial furniture for the workplace, our client is currently seeking a Product Design Engineer to work on a variety of prestigious and challenging projects. The role will require close communication with both the design and production team so you will be working mainly in the office although there is the possibility for some flexibility.
 
The successful applicant will be responsible for working on all the engineering aspects of standard and bespoke products for customer approval and manufacture. This will involve the generation of CAD models, production drawings, manufacturing detailing for the CNC machines and helping to refine value engineering and new solutions to the drawing and production process.
 
This role will evolve around the individual’s strengths and skills with opportunities down the line to be involved in design, presentation and visualisation work if of interest.
 
Skills and experience needed for the Product Design Engineer:
  • At least 1 year of experience from the furniture, product or industrial engineering sectors
  • Strong drawing and technical detailing skills
  • SolidWorks is essential, AutoCAD and 3D Studio an advantage but not a necessity
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • A high level of initiative and organisational ability would be expected with good problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of CNC machining would be useful
