Junior Product Designer - Cheshire - up to £25,000 (V03917)

Our client specialises in playground equipment and manufactures in-house, supplying a broad spectrum of clients including landscape architects, play companies and Councils. You will find their products in public parks, offices, private houses and destination locations all around the world.

They are currently looking for a creative Product Designer with a good technical ability and working knowledge of SolidWorks to join their team and contribute high quality, innovative designs. They need a versatile candidate who can work on their own initiative and develop in this role.

Key roles and responsibilities for the Product Designer include:

  • Project management, working with the support of the team
  • Employing strong modelling skills, production of technical drawings for manufacture and renders for presentations
  • Developing bespoke product designs that can be manufactured efficiently and cost effectively
  • Modifications to the existing standard product range
  • Ensuring efficient and timely completion of projects, anticipating issues and proactively working to resolve them
  • Liaising with customers and suppliers on a daily basis both in person and by telephone / email
  • Being involved in costings and ordering

Requirements for the Product Designer:

  • Conversant with SolidWorks
  • Product Design degree or similar
  • Experience of manufacturing processes for sheet metal and wood
  • Ideally with between 1 and 2 years’ experience
  • Strong modelling and technical skills
  • Adobe Creative Suite with AutoCAD being an advantage
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Detail orientated and numerate

This company is a specialist in the interior architecture of historical and period properties and work directly with their clients who come to them for their expertise and beautiful pieces of furniture, joinery and workmanship.

As a Project Joinery Designer, you will be producing the detailed design drawings for client presentations and detailed drawings for sub-contract quotations and manufacturing for bespoke components (in metal, stone and other associated external materials and processes). Developing the creative team’s commissioned design concepts, you will be responsible for the full project specification. You will also provide design project management and be responsible for all technical external communications and management on the project at design phase and often beyond. This includes service M&E drawings, building setting out drawings, underfloor heating drawings and lighting drawings as required.

You could be working on anything from panelling, architraves and flooring to libraries, boot rooms, sculleries, laundries and kitchens.


Skills and Experience needed for the Project Joinery Designer:

  • AutoCAD experience and ideally 3D using Inventor or SolidWorks
  • Preferably a cabinet making or joiners background with a good understanding of manufacturing and assembly processes, materials selection and presentation
  • At least 4 years' experience already gained in industry as a furniture designer on fitted furniture and/or architectural joinery
  • Able to work from sketches and specification sheets and able to interpret technical requirements and design briefs
  • Experience of interior measured surveying is desirable
  • Knowledge of quality kitchen appliances and sanitary ware would be helpful

They currently have an opening for a Furniture Designer with excellent technical knowledge of furniture construction to join their design team.

They are seeking an individual who is a strong team player with a positive, can-do attitude. Knowledge and experience of VectorWorks is preferable but they will consider other similar CAD programmes.

Main duties for the Furniture Designer include:

  • Supervising the design team to produce working drawings
  • Production of accurate working drawings
  • Production of design concept drawings to be used in the sales process
  • Managing and co-ordinating makers and subcontractors
  • Occasional working on-site, site surveying, fitting and construction

Skills and Experience needed for the Furniture Designer role:

  • Strong knowledge of both furniture manufacturing techniques and materials

They are currently seeking an additional Technical Designer to join the team and work with a comprehensive range of materials and designs for high-end companies throughout the capital.

The Joinery and Furniture Designer will be:

  • Creating concept designs, rendering and turning them into ready-to-manufacture technical drawings
  • Producing complete and checked technical drawings
  • Using the task management software to track progress and to communicate
  • Researching technical details of components, materials and designs used, to ensure they are fit-for-purpose
  • Where possible, engineering designs to be as efficient as possible for manufacture
  • Participating in company and departmental discussions about improvements and innovation

Experience and skills required for the Joinery and Furniture Designer are:

  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience using SolidWorks
  • Experience of producing joinery drawings with preferably hands-on knowledge in manufacturing and assembly
  • Manufacturing and pre-installation construction takes place in house, so good communication skills are required to resolve any potential design and material issues
  • Excellent creativity and innovation
  • Excellent time management and organisation skills

Competitive remuneration and paid over-time. 22 days holiday increasing by 1 day every 2 years to a maximum of 25 days. Lunch is provided by the company and there is parking space on the premises.

They are currently looking to increase their sales team with an Account Manager / Account Executive (depending on level of experience already gained). You will be responsible for sales and growing the sales pipeline by managing existing accounts of; Specifiers, Architects, Interior Designers, Garden Designers, Art Consultants, Property Developers and End Users both for residential and commercial projects.

Main responsibilities for the Account Manager / Account Executive:

  • Regular contact with existing accounts
  • Building existing and new client relationships
  • Driving overall results by sales pipeline management
  • Performing robust follow-ups
  • Increasing quote to close ratio
  • Maintaining high levels of quality, accuracy and process consistency
  • Producing sales reports

Person / Experience for the Account Manager / Account Executive:

Bonus and Benefits:

The offices are based in a rural location a short distance from a large town and its rail links (40 minutes to London Paddington). The role could be part home / part office based.

Salary will be c£30k plus commission (part individual and part team), OTE £50k.

Benefits include: 22 days holiday rising to 28 days, 4% company contribution to pension scheme and a generous discretionary annual bonus.

Product Design Engineer - Essex - up to £35,000 (V03908)

This internationally recognised brand has a shared passion for British lighting, creating contemporary lighting for the residential, hospitality and commercial marketplaces globally.

Based near the Hertfordshire and Essex border they have openings for two Product Design Engineers. One to be working on new products for the North American market and the other to work on specials for the UK, Europe and Asia-Pacific markets.

You will be developing products requested by their Hospitality and Sales Team in accordance with relevant regulations and standards suitable for that territory. This will involve supporting the team in developing within the given timelines needed to meet customer expectations and seasonal launches. Also ensuring products are engineered to meet the Company’s engineering and sustainability principles.

You must be able to work effectively within a team, alongside and assisting team members where needed. Regular communication with Supplier Liaison Managers is essential within the development of any new product. Everyone is encouraged to share their ideas.

Key responsibilities for the Product Design Engineer are to:

  • Create product submission packs for product approval.
  • Complete sample evaluation reports and communicate the findings with the manufacturers.
  • Prepare prototype samples using various techniques including standard model making and 3D printing technology.
  • Produce engineering drawings and product specifications for quotation, manufacturing and Quality Assurance purposes.
  • Create and maintain BIM files for products within the development process.
  • Liaise with manufacturers during the development and production process.
  • Produce installation instructions and product labels. 
  • Carry out basic in-house product testing.

Person / Experience Required:

  • 2+ years' experience working as a Product Design Engineer.
  • Ability to produce engineering drawings to IEC standards.
  • Knowledge and experience of various manufacturing processes suitable for mass production.
  • SolidWorks literate.
  • Knowledge and basic understanding of Adobe Illustrator for instructions and illustrations.
  • Able and comfortable with taking ownership of projects assigned.
  • Open to giving and taking constructive feedback.
  • Creative engineering flair.

In return the salary on offer is up to £35k plus an annual bonus, contributary pension, free fruit and soup days and 4 company social events a year.

This well-established Kitchen Showroom specialise in creating bespoke kitchen, bathroom and bedroom interiors. They have been awarded “Best of Houzz” for exceptional Service and Design year on year and have an enviable staff retention record.

They are now looking to recruit a Kitchen Designer with creative flair to help take their business forward. The ideal candidate will be competent using Winner Design software, with experience of designing and ordering Kitchen and Bedroom furniture. They work with several German and UK manufacturers and also offer bespoke-made British furniture.

They work normal business hours from their showroom and you will be expected to work two Saturdays per month and be willing to visit properties to conduct surveys and take dimensions.

This would be a great opportunity for an individual with a proven background in design who is looking to operate in the upper end of the market. 80% of their business is local with a strong referral rate.

Skills and experience for the Kitchen Designer role:

  • Between 2 and 4 years’ experience working as a Kitchen Designer or an interior designer within the residential marketplace.
