This Product Design role is based in Birmingham, serving as the epicentre of Chocolate creativity and innovation for this global business. They are seeking both a Senior and Midweight Designer to join their expanding design team.
You will be playing a crucial role working on end-to-end product design along with research programmes generating the knowledge needed to create great consumer experiences for their global brands. In the role of Product Designer you will be leading the delivery of custom-made lighting projects for clients.  From initial visualisation and design proposal, through to costing quoting and project scoping and then delivery (supplier liaison, procurement and project management).
 
Responsibilities include to:
  • Work with the Creative Director on the design of new products - market research, component, material and supplier research, producing visualisations and drawings, liaising with suppliers, researching materials.
  • Be responsible for all design specifications for existing and new products including Technical Drawings, Bill of Materials, Samples and Assembly Specifications.
  • Maintain existing and create new Product Instructions, Product Catalogues and Product Information.

Your main role will be to develop, engineer and ready for manufacture high-end decorative lighting. You will be assisting in all design matters from tender / concept stage through to drawing approval.
 
This will also involve the Product Designer to:
  • Liaise with staff internally to provide design and commercial assistance
  • Help create supporting product documents such as assembly instructions and supporting website information

Their range of services cover everything from exhibition stands, product launches and bespoke sampling stands to PR stunts, sampling bins and giant props.
 
Based near the borders of Essex and Hertfordshire, within easy reach of London, they currently have a vacancy to work within their production team. This is a hands-on role with tasks which could include: CAD drawing, carpentry, metalworking, head rigger, spray painting, scenic finishes, paint management, general production build, CAD interpretation, CNC & Laser cutter operation, vinyling, prop making, installation crewing, lead carpenter, sanding, filling & finishing.
 
The role includes development of practical skills including scenic, LX, sound and electronics and working in line with the Company sustainability policy, ensuring minimising wastage and organise off cuts of production material for use on subsequent jobs. Health & Safety compliance is essential as is quality control for all projects.
 
This position is based on set hours per week as there needs to be some flexibility as this industry often needs you to work different hours on-site dependant on the project. Salary will be £28k pa based on 40 hours per week plus BUPA and pension.
 
Skills and Experience needed from the Production Team / Assistant Workshop Manager:
  • Scenic and paint knowledge, carpentry and construction skills would be useful
  • Good time keeping and communication skills, and be able to work with an adaptable, flexible and accommodating attitude
  • Proactive with an enthusiastic, self-motivated and positive disposition and must be able to work well as part of a team
  • Strong organisational skills along with the ability to work under pressure to tight deadlines
  • IT competent, ideally able to use AutoCAD

Product Designer - West Midlands - up to £40,000 (V04147)

Our client designs, manufactures and fabricates an extensive product range including lighting, giftware, engineering products and fully bespoke items. All these are produced to exacting customer specifications by their expert team using a range of materials including steel, copper, aluminium and brass.
 
They are currently looking for a mid or senior CAD Designer to work with two of their brands of lighting products and to become an integral part of a small team of product engineers. The role will encompass the whole process of product development, from CAD modelling and producing documentation for the factory to follow for production, through to packaging and creating end user documentation.
 
In summary they are looking for someone who has experience creating documents for production using Solidworks and end users using the Adobe Creative Suite.
 
For the more experienced candidate with leadership experience there is a chance to progress and lead the team.
 
The Product Designer role includes:
  • Modelling of machined parts, components and sheet metal fabrications in SolidWorks
  • Creation of assemblies and configurations in SolidWorks
  • Creation of dimensioned part drawings for manufacture
  • Production of detailed exploded views and BOMs to guide the assembly team in how to make their lights
  • Modelling of well thought out packaging designs
  • Sourcing components and liaising with suppliers
 
Skills and Experience needed from the Product Designer:
  • 3+ years’ industry experience, lighting products would be an advantage
  • Excellent SolidWorks skills
  • An understanding of design for manufacture
  • Experience using Adobe Illustrator and InDesign would be useful but not essential
  • Experience with SolidCAM or similar CAM software an advantage
Hours: 7am to 4pm, Monday to Thursday / 7am to 1pm on Fridays. In return there is a salary of between £30k and £40k depending on experience plus company pension.

Your work will involve:
  • Using AutoCAD for technical drawings and design work
  • Facilitating the development of sign-off, setting out, procurement and production of furniture, including cabinetry, metal elements, stone elements and other custom materials and features
  • Mechanical and electrical drawings and installation drawings to aid site trades
  • Liaising with the design team and project managers

We have a new and exciting opportunity to join a unique business creating exceptional objects and furniture for prestigious residential and super yacht projects around the world.

As the starting point of a project you will be using your skills and knowledge to create 2D and 3D drawings for the makers to follow. You will be working from conception to completion, ideally managing the projects you’re working on, ensuring everything from procurement to scheduling is brought in on budget and on time.

You’ll be working with some of the top interior designers of the modern day helping to bring their ideas to life and may also have the opportunity to develop these relationships and help forge new ones with events, showcases, workshop visits and trips to site, both nationally and internationally.


Skills and Experience needed from the Furniture Project Designer:

  • 2+ years of technical CAD design experience with 2D & 3D capabilities (Rhino / AutoCAD preferable). Training can be provided to the right candidate
  • Strong time-management skills
  • Interpersonal skills, working with colleagues, clients, sub-contractors, suppliers, logistics etc.
  • Technical and engineering understanding is critical with an acute eye for detail
  • Ability to take instruction and learn as part of a team
  • Driving Licence as they work nationally (and internationally) to provide the best service to their clients possible
  • Experience of luxury furniture, upholstered FFE & creative projects would be an advantage
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite would be helpful
  • Bilingual applicants an advantage due to international projects
