Product Designer - Cheshire - up to £27,000 (V03917)

Our client specialises in playground equipment and manufactures in-house, supplying a broad spectrum of clients including landscape architects, play companies and Councils. You will find their products in public parks, offices, private houses and destination locations all around the world.

They are currently looking for a creative Product Designer with a good technical ability and working knowledge of SolidWorks to join their team and contribute high quality, innovative designs. They are open to either a recent graduate with some industrial experience or a " 2nd jobber", someone who can work on their own initiative and develop within this role. They are based near a main station with good transport links.

Key roles and responsibilities for the Product Designer include:

  • Project management, working with the support of the team
  • Employing strong modelling skills, production of technical drawings for manufacture and renders for presentations
  • Developing bespoke product designs that can be manufactured efficiently and cost effectively
  • Modifications to the existing standard product range
  • Ensuring efficient and timely completion of projects, anticipating issues and proactively working to resolve them
  • Liaising with customers and suppliers on a daily basis both in person and by telephone / email
  • Being involved in costings and ordering

Skills and Experience needed for the Product Designer role:

  • Conversant with SolidWorks
  • Product Design degree or similar
  • Experience of manufacturing processes for sheet metal and wood
  • Strong modelling and technical skills
  • Adobe Creative Suite with AutoCAD being an advantage
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Detail orientated and numerate

This company is a specialist in the interior architecture of historical and period properties and work directly with their clients who come to them for their expertise and beautiful pieces of furniture, joinery and workmanship.

As a Project Joinery Designer, you will be producing the detailed design drawings for client presentations and detailed drawings for sub-contract quotations and manufacturing for bespoke components (in metal, stone and other associated external materials and processes). Developing the creative team’s commissioned design concepts, you will be responsible for the full project specification. You will also provide design project management and be responsible for all technical external communications and management on the project at design phase and often beyond. This includes service M&E drawings, building setting out drawings, underfloor heating drawings and lighting drawings as required.

You could be working on anything from panelling, architraves and flooring to libraries, boot rooms, sculleries, laundries and kitchens.


Skills and Experience needed for the Project Joinery Designer:

  • AutoCAD experience and ideally 3D using Inventor or SolidWorks
  • Preferably a cabinet making or joiners background with a good understanding of manufacturing and assembly processes, materials selection and presentation
  • At least 4 years' experience already gained in industry as a furniture designer on fitted furniture and/or architectural joinery
  • Able to work from sketches and specification sheets and able to interpret technical requirements and design briefs
  • Experience of interior measured surveying is desirable
  • Knowledge of quality kitchen appliances and sanitary ware would be helpful

Our client has been designing and making bespoke furniture, antiqued mirror and specialist finishes for more than twenty years for the high-end London and international markets. They work for leading interior designers, architects and private clients all over the world.

They currently have an opening for a Furniture Designer with excellent technical knowledge of furniture construction to join their design team.

They are seeking an individual who is a strong team player with a positive, can-do attitude. Knowledge and experience of VectorWorks is preferable but they will consider other similar CAD programmes. They are open to the level of experience and salary will therefore vary accordingly.

Main duties for the Furniture Designer include:

  • Supervising the design team to produce working drawings
  • Production of accurate working drawings
  • Production of design concept drawings to be used in the sales process
  • Managing and co-ordinating makers and subcontractors
  • Occasional working on-site, site surveying, fitting and construction

Skills and Experience needed for the Furniture Designer role:

  • Strong knowledge of both furniture manufacturing techniques and materials
  • Site installation experience is desirable, as well as practical cabinet-making or bench skills
  • At least 2 years’ experience within furniture or woodwork manufacturing
  • Good hand-sketching ability would be helpful
  • Strong analytically regarding budget awareness
  • Good problem-solving skills

Based near the Hertfordshire and Essex border they are seeking a Product Design Engineer to work on new product development for the North American market.

You will be developing products requested by their Hospitality and Sales Team in accordance with relevant regulations and standards suitable for this territory. This will involve supporting the team in developing within the given timelines needed to meet customer expectations and seasonal launches. Also ensuring products are engineered to meet the Company’s engineering and sustainability principles.

You must be able to work effectively within a team, alongside and assisting team members where needed. Regular communication with Supplier Liaison Managers is essential within the development of any new product. Everyone is encouraged to share their ideas.

Key responsibilities are to:

  • Create product submission packs and complete sample evaluation reports.
  • Prepare prototype samples using standard model making and 3D printing technology.
  • Produce engineering drawings and product specifications for quotation, manufacturing and QA purposes.
  • Create and maintain BIM files for products within the development process.
  • Liaise with manufacturers during the development and production process.
  • Produce installation instructions and product labels.
  • Carry out basic in-house product testing.

Skills and Experience required for the Product Design Engineer:

  • 2+ years' experience working as a Product Design Engineer.
  • Ability to produce engineering drawings to IEC standards.
  • Knowledge and experience of various manufacturing processes suitable for mass production.
  • SolidWorks literate and knowledge of Adobe Illustrator for instructions and illustrations.
  • Able and comfortable with taking ownership of projects assigned.
  • Creative engineering flair.

In return the salary on offer for the Product Design Engineer is up to £35k plus an annual bonus, contributary pension, free fruit and soup days and 4 company social events a year. They are a great company to work for.

Our client is passionate about beautiful bathrooms and offer a carefully curated collection of bathroom furnishings and finishes. They sell products via their website, over the phone or by email. The items sold are a mixture of in-stock items and items that are made-to-order through a trusted network of craftsman and suppliers.

Due to the volume of sales and the growth of the business they are now looking for a senior manager to take over duties from the founder in managing the business processes and people for delivering customer orders; from the initial point of client contact through ordering and to final delivery and after sales care.

It is a full-time role and will require the successful candidate to work from the Head Office with appropriate Covid related protections. There will be some flexibility for home working and the possibility of a 4-day week for the right candidate.

Overall Responsibilities for the Business Manager:

You will be required to manage a team of 3 people which includes hiring, structuring and training more people as the company continues to grow over the next few years. Your priorities will sit equally in sales (providing clear information to customers and staff when dealing with customers) and in operations (all the processes that happen behind the scenes for the smooth ordering and delivery of products to customers). This role is all about managing people and processes and ensuring the business operates smoothly and will best suit someone who gets a lot of enjoyment and satisfaction from setting up and managing IT systems, data and processes.
