Furniture Design Technician - Norfolk - up to £34,000 (V03757)

This British Company manufactures beautiful bespoke furniture, cabinetry and specialist joinery work for a global network of clients. Their large purpose-built manufacturing complex is home to traditional cabinet making, veneering, carving and gilding skills, complemented by modern design, manufacturing and finishing techniques.

They work on both classical and contemporary interiors including dressing rooms, staircases and libraries, cinemas, wine rooms, games rooms and yachts and are opening a new additional workshop to which they are recruiting both a Senior and Junior/Midweight Furniture Draughtsperson to join this growing design and technical team.

Objectives and requirements:

  • To take a brief and/or sketched concept and work into production drawings and 3D CAD renders using SolidWorks
  • You will need some past experience in a wood based environment - joinery, shopfitting or cabinet making to make improvements or modifications to designs
  • Liaise with other departments using your good communication skills
  • To work as part of a team to create effective working relationships
  • Appreciating their end of the marketplace with attention to detail and careful considerations of materials and techniques

In order to develop further, they are seeking a dedicated sales / account manager with the main remit to help in securing new business with national housebuilders and developers nationwide.

They are ideally looking for someone already working within the design or property development industry with preferably a proven track record in sales. They may consider a designer however who is ready to move their career forward into a new business development role and has strong client liaison and negotiating skills.

Person / Experience Required:

  • Experience with selling to the interiors marketplace
  • A strong appreciation or past experience within design
  • Experienced in handling and presenting to clients
  • Organised and numerate
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills (oral, written and presentational)
  • Happy to travel nationwide but to visit their studio in Staffordshire regularly
  • Able to operate self-sufficiently in a partly field based role

Junior Furniture Designer - Lancashire - up to £25,000 (V03721)

This company specialise in creating beautiful bespoke furniture, designing and producing high end, innovative furniture from fitted studies and libraries, through to freestanding pieces and Superyacht furniture.

Currently seeking a Junior Designer, the remit will be to initially assist the Project Manager with the day-to-day running of the business, managing workshops and projects and liaising with both clients and suppliers. There will also be time set aside for the Junior Designer to work on renders and drawings which will be based on live projects they are currently working on or quoting for.

The Junior Designer will work alongside, report to, and be mentored by the Senior Designer.

Responsibilities include to assist in:

  • Sample preparation, tracking and production.
  • Liaising with Workshops to correct problems or discuss design ideas/issues.
  • Sourcing and costing of materials for live Projects or for quotations.
  • Delivering accurate drawings to meet the production schedule and exceed the expectations of clients.
  • Producing and developing their own design ideas, which if selected will be sent out as a monthly mail shot to all clients.

Skills and experience sought:

  • Bespoke furniture making knowledge and able to convert design concepts into technical furniture drawings for manufacture.
  • Experience of using AutoCAD and/or SolidWorks
  • University Degree or similar in Furniture Design or a similar aspect of Design.
  • Confidence and good communication skills when speaking with Workshops, Suppliers and Customers.
  • Flexible working occasionally to accommodate deadlines and production timelines.

Working hours are Monday - Friday, 9am-5pm.

This company designs and builds bespoke custom built exhibition stands, from double-decker exhibition stands to conference and stage sets. They handle all exhibition requirements in-house including graphic & logo printing, AV, lighting, stand transport and storage. They also create displays for showrooms and full shop-fits.

Working from their offices in Oxfordshire they are currently looking to recruit an additional exhibition designer to be responsible for all aspects of exhibition stand design and presentation from the client's brief to delivery of the project.

Duties will include:

  • Production of designs, 3D visuals and floor plans
  • Research into and presentation of stand attractions
  • Client liaison at every stage of the design and delivery process
  • Preparing artworking for in-house and sub-contracted graphic departments
  • Liaison with in-house build specialists, A.V. companies and any other partners that may be involved in a project
  • Attendance on site for surveys and to project manage the build of the stand

Person / Experience Required:

  • A minimum of 5 years' relevant experience in exhibition stand design
  • Strong visualisation skills
  • Able to create accurate working drawings using AutoCAD
  • A strong understanding of construction techniques
  • Literate in 3DStudio Max, Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator
  • A working knowledge of VectorWorks would be an advantage

They are looking for someone with the ability to populate designs with interesting graphics who can then produce working drawings for the build process and manage any graphic provision through the progress of projects.

The successful candidates will take inspiring design concepts and using CAD software turn the designs into a set of engineering drawings for in-house manufacture including CNC, laser work, hand making, leatherwork and finishing as well as outsourced parts made by external sub-contractors. You will also be preparing a bill of materials to be sourced and ordered by purchasing. In addition, the engineers will support the project manager and be able answer any technical questions in relation to the construction of manufacture of the design by manufacturing teams.

Person / Experience Required:

  • Excellent knowledge of bespoke furniture making and construction
  • At least 4 years' cabinet making experience at a luxury level
  • Fluency in 2D CAD software with Rhino an advantage for 3D
  • Ability to plan and schedule your own work to meet the team's goals
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and team working skills
  • Ability to work to budgets for completion of engineering drawings
  • Ability to travel and be competent at note taking for taking on-site measurements
  • Ability to use MS Office competently

To help with their growth and react to their increasingly busy workload they have created a new key position of Prototyper. The main remit is to build and amend prototypes for new products being developed. This includes building prototypes from new as well as amending existing items.

Duties include constructing new Prototypes from sketches or manufacturing drawings, amending existing prototypes received from suppliers, advising on foams / webbing / construction of frame, advising on improvements with regard to design and upholstery at concept stage and providing input for value engineering.

They ideally want someone that likes a challenge and has lots of initiative as well as upholstery skills. There will be other projects apart from upholstery so they need you to be flexible also

Person / Experience Required:

  • Experience in upholstery
  • Good carpentry skills and experience in timber carcass building
