This furniture and lighting design company has its own workshop with highly skilled craftspeople. Along with selling to high net worth individuals they partner with interior designers, architects and other luxury retail companies, creating unique lighting and furniture.

They are looking for a full time individual to join their small friendly and creative team. The Product Design Estimator will be working closely with both owner/directors of the company as well as the production team.

Day to Day Tasks:

  • Sketching and designing elements of unique bespoke items
  • Costing up existing catalogue collections and bespoke designs
  • Liaising with designers to ascertain design requirements and fabrication processes and materials
  • Gathering information and assessing details of what the client wants
  • Collecting quotations from material suppliers and sub-contractors
  • Researching materials, equipment and labour costs
  • Estimating job timescales with production manager
  • Preparing and submitting quotations
  • Helping with bids for new projects and support buying activities in production

Person / Experience Required:

You will need to be proficient with Excel, highly organised and numerate. An ability to draw is important as this is an essential tool for establishing the manufacturing processes required and costs for bespoke pieces and in-house products. Also needed will be:

  • Experience of estimating / costing and design within the luxury goods design sector
  • Degree or equivalent education in Design
  • Ability to work with a high degree of accuracy and a high level of attention to detail
  • Fluent spoken and written English, with excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Flexible and a can do positive attitude
  • Independent and self-motivated and able to work well in a team
  • Good problem solving skills
  • Smart, calm and professional manner

You will be a strong product or industrial designer with proven experience of designing and developing products for a commercial mass market business. Working with a range of materials, technologies and techniques you will be identifying the most commercially viable options whilst maintaining quality of design and speed to market. Responsibilities will be for the industrial design of kitchen furniture and related products, including appropriate testing and approval for multiple projects from conception through to delivery.

We are looking for a strong individual with excellent communication skills. You will have experience of leading discussions, building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders to scope out the project requirements and following projects through to production and delivery into our depot network.

Experience of working within a fast paced commercial design focussed industry, dealing with mass market products, a keen eye for detail, aesthetics, quality requirements, function, customer experience and up to date with the latest design, material and technology trends is essential. This is a challenging and rewarding role where managing multiple project types is essential whilst building and maintaining relationships internally and externally.

This is an excellent opportunity for a product / industrial designer to work with a great team of people and to progress within the business working as part of the kitchen category product development team with the supply division. The role will involve travel both domestically and internationally.
