With a number of showrooms nationwide they build their furniture using traditional methods of construction. Looking ahead at evolving trends, customer expectations and the future look of showrooms, including further expansion, a new role has been created, Head of Design reporting to the Sales and Marketing Director.

Job Summary:

  1. To ensure the image, design and retail environment of all their showrooms
  2. Interior design of new showrooms
  3. Looking at evolving trends and bring the future of retail and kitchens into their showrooms
  4. To coordinate new product development, including the sourcing of accessories

Person / Experience Required:

  • Qualified in interior or furniture design
  • At least 5 years' experience to include the retail design of premium retail home improvement brands
  • Commercially astute
  • Self-assured and able to present ideas and concepts whilst taking account of other points of view or opinions
  • An understanding of brand strategy and the effects of this strategy on showroom and product development
  • IT literate, proficient in CAD and with good hand drawing skills

Our client specialises in the design, development and manufacture of very high quality lighting and furnishing products. As a one of the leading suppliers to the interior designer and specifiers market their products have earned a reputation of being extremely well made and beautifully designed.

The company is looking for a Junior Product Designer with at least 12 months' workplace experience to join their small design team. You will need to be able to interpret a design brief, also reverse engineer from existing products and produce workable and accurate 3D models as well as technical production drawings for evaluation by their management team and ultimately reference for factory production.

Other Experience Required:

  • You will need fluency in working with SolidWorks and the Adobe Creative Suite as well as general technical design skills
  • An experience of working with similar product types and an understanding of the basic principles of manufacture in various metals, glass and ceramics is an advantage
  • Educated in a relevant degree discipline (Product Design, Design Engineering)
  • Good communication skills and experience of dealing with higher management
  • Some hand sketching and 3D prototyping experience will be advantageous
