Materials and Workshop Research Specialist - Leicestershire - negotiable (V04171)

With total commitment to British manufacturing, our client’s mission is to design and make enduring and life-enhancing furniture, lighting, fabrics and wallpapers through collaborations with a network of the finest craftspeople in Britain. Their designs combine responsibly sourced, high-quality materials and superb workmanship to ensure they endure for generations.

They are currently seeking a technically minded and inquisitive individual with knowledge of materials used within the product and furniture design marketplace. This is a new role which is critical to their mission to revive endangered British craftsmanship and manufacturing skills. You will be based near their workshops in Leicester.

Your role will be to identify and present new workshop opportunities which match the company’s sustainability commitments, presenting opportunities to the Product Director to ensure that desirability and feasibility have been evaluated. Once the selection has been narrowed down you will be responsible for the management of setting up the new workshops as well as the handover of research and concept material to the Design Manager or Manufacturing team.

You will also be monitoring and looking at new technologies and materials; obtaining costings and concept samples and monitoring industry innovations, continuing detailed investigation and analysis to ensure there is a fully transparent supply chain.


Skills and Experience needed for the Technical Materials Researcher’s role:

  • Min. 5 years’ experience within the product development sector, preferably lighting and/or furniture
  • Able to demonstrate a genuine interest in environmental innovation and sustainability, particularly in the interiors sector
  • Relevant knowledge and understanding of UK standards and legislations
  • Strong collaborative and communication skills
  • Able to work to deadlines with strong planning, prioritisation and time management skills
  • Current driving licence

Furniture CAD Technician - Kent - negotiable (V04174)

Our client has their own unique approach to creating handmade truly bespoke kitchens, bedrooms, studies, wine rooms and other bespoke furniture. With a strong design and manufacturing team they encourage customers to visit the showroom and workshop where they are greeted with enthusiasm, an in-depth knowledge of materials and finishes, and a company able to offer a truly bespoke service.

They are now currently looking for a CAD Technician to produce Sales Drawings using Autodesk Revit for bespoke high-end joinery for 6 to 12 months’ maternity cover. You will be joining a company with a very low turnover of staff and a friendly and helpful team. This will be a full-time office based role.

Skills and experience sought for the CAD Furniture Technician:

  • You must be computer literate, proficient with AutoCAD and ideally Revit. Full training will be provided for the right candidate which may include a period of working alongside their current CAD Technician as required
  • Experience with architecture and fitted furniture
  • Able to think for yourself and come up with practical solutions
  • Good communication skills, fluent in English
  • A real team player, happy to take on any job whether small or large

They have created a new role for a Furniture Designer with the potential for the position to develop into so much more for the right person. The role will have involvement in the finer details of furniture manufacture, detailed drawings, procurement and installation. 
This role can be based near their workshop in Wiltshire or up near the Harrogate office.
 
Your work as a Furniture Designer will involve:
  • Using AutoCAD for technical drawings and design work
  • Facilitating the development of sign-off, setting out, procurement and production of furniture, including cabinetry, metal elements, stone elements and other custom materials and features
  • Mechanical and electrical drawings and installation drawings to aid site trades
  • Liaising with the design team and project managers
  • Working with private clients, architects, developers and interior designers
  • Occasional travel mostly to the showroom / studio in London and often to project sites, in order to attend meetings and to carry out site surveys and checks
Skills and Experience needed for the Furniture Designer:
  • A good understanding of high-end custom furniture
  • Minimum of 3 years' relevant work experience
  • Fluent in 2D AutoCAD
  • Experience in 3D work and 3D visualisation is a bonus but not essential
  • A proactive person with a 'self-starter' attitude and strong time-management skills
  • Own car and Driving Licence
Salary on offer will be between £28k and £35k plus pension.

As a Project Manager, you will play a pivotal role in bringing these unique and varied projects to life. Key Responsibilities include to:

·    Collaborate with directors and the design team to identify project requirements, delivery timelines and costs.
·    Develop detailed project schedules and budgets, adapting them based on changing needs and requirements.
·    Identify and assign project tasks, overseeing day-to-day project management.
·    Liaise with technical draftsmen to ensure manufacturing drawings align with design intent, are on time, and within budget.

Our client specialises in Experiential Design, Production and Installation and are proud to count large brands and leading marketing agencies amongst their clients. Their range of services cover everything from exhibition stands, product launches and bespoke sampling stands to PR stunts, sampling bins and giant props.
 
Based near the borders of Essex and Hertfordshire, within easy reach of London, they currently have a vacancy to work within their production team. This is a hands-on role with tasks which could include: CAD drawing, carpentry, metalworking, head rigger, spray painting, scenic finishes, paint management, general production build, CAD interpretation, CNC & Laser cutter operation, vinyling, prop making, installation crewing, lead carpenter, sanding, filling & finishing.
 
The role includes development of practical skills including scenic, LX, sound and electronics and working in line with the Company sustainability policy, ensuring minimising wastage and organise off cuts of production material for use on subsequent jobs. Health & Safety compliance is essential as is quality control for all projects.
 
This position is based on set hours per week as there needs to be some flexibility as this industry often needs you to work different hours on-site dependant on the project. Salary will be £28k pa based on 40 hours per week plus BUPA and pension.
 
Skills and Experience needed from the Production Team / Assistant Workshop Manager:
  • Scenic and paint knowledge, carpentry and construction skills would be useful
  • Good time keeping and communication skills, and be able to work with an adaptable, flexible and accommodating attitude
  • Proactive with an enthusiastic, self-motivated and positive disposition and must be able to work well as part of a team
  • Strong organisational skills along with the ability to work under pressure to tight deadlines
  • IT competent, ideally able to use AutoCAD
  • Knowledge of CNC and Laser cutting would be useful
  • Driving licence
