Our client is an International Corporation with a great opportunity for experienced and talented Product Designers to pioneer innovative consumer experiences within the Global Chocolate Market. This Product Design role is based in Birmingham, serving as the epicentre of Chocolate creativity and innovation for this global business. They are seeking both a Senior and Midweight Designer to join their expanding design team.
You will be playing a crucial role working on end-to-end product design along with research programmes generating the knowledge needed to create great consumer experiences for their global brands. Using your creative thinking skills and knowledge in consumer centricity tools you will be planning, leading and coordinating projects. The senior designer will also be expected to work autonomously, mentoring and coaching junior team members and contributing with the success of their Chocolate category across the globe.
They are looking for candidates who are creative and innovative with an entrepreneurial spirit. You will be presenting and pitching your creations to both senior and junior stakeholders. There will be some traveling expected within the UK and abroad and they offer a hybrid model of 3 days working onsite and 2 from home.

Our client is a well-established bespoke lighting business and is looking for a Product Designer to join the team and help expand its operations.
 
Your main role will be to develop, engineer and ready for manufacture high-end decorative lighting. You will be assisting in all design matters from tender / concept stage through to drawing approval.
 
This will also involve the Product Designer to:
  • Liaise with staff internally to provide design and commercial assistance
  • Help create supporting product documents such as assembly instructions and supporting website information
  • Review supplier drawings and technical information
  • Help create supporting work for products such as packaging ideas, organise product testing, organise samples, specification sheets etc.
  • Inspect parts and products on site, then catalogue, review and communicate issues and developments back to suppliers
 
Skills and Experience needed for the Product Designer role:

  • Personable and professional with strong communication skills

Our client designs, manufactures and fabricates an extensive product range including lighting, giftware, engineering products and fully bespoke items. All these are produced to exacting customer specifications by their expert team using a range of materials including steel, copper, aluminium and brass.
 
They are currently looking for a mid or senior CAD Designer to work with two of their brands of lighting products and to become an integral part of a small team of product engineers. The role will encompass the whole process of product development, from CAD modelling and producing documentation for the factory to follow for production, through to packaging and creating end user documentation.
 
In summary they are looking for someone who has experience creating documents for production using Solidworks and end users using the Adobe Creative Suite.
 
For the more experienced candidate with leadership experience there is a chance to progress and lead the team.
 
The Product Designer role includes:
  • Modelling of machined parts, components and sheet metal fabrications in SolidWorks
  • Creation of assemblies and configurations in SolidWorks
  • Creation of dimensioned part drawings for manufacture
  • Production of detailed exploded views and BOMs to guide the assembly team in how to make their lights
  • Modelling of well thought out packaging designs
  • Sourcing components and liaising with suppliers
 
Skills and Experience needed from the Product Designer:
  • 3+ years’ industry experience, lighting products would be an advantage
  • Excellent SolidWorks skills
  • An understanding of design for manufacture
  • Experience using Adobe Illustrator and InDesign would be useful but not essential
  • Experience with SolidCAM or similar CAM software an advantage
Hours: 7am to 4pm, Monday to Thursday / 7am to 1pm on Fridays. In return there is a salary of between £30k and £40k depending on experience plus company pension.

They are currently seeking a hands-on Production Manager and would, in particular, suit an experienced furniture maker / joiner who has knowledge and experience in reading and interacting with CAD drawing and 3D models.
 
As Production Manager you will be coordinating and controlling the flow of work and information from design through manufacturing and the workshop to completion and final delivery. Principally you will be marshalling and relaying all the necessary information to the production team in the form of drawings and cutting lists, and creating bills of materials so that all the necessary materials and components are ordered and in stock at the right time to complete the work efficiently. They need someone who is proactive and self motivated and who can also be hands on in the workshop when required.
 
Skills and Experience expected for the Production Manager role:
  • 5 years’ experience in a high-end cabinet making or specialist joinery role
  • Able to interpret technical drawings and specifications and effectively communicate the requirements to the production team
  • Attention to detail and high level of accuracy
  • Strong problem-solving skills, an organised solution focused individual
  • Pro-active and self-motivated, able to work with minimal supervision
  • Competent in using Microsoft Office including Excel
  • Ability to work under pressure and prioritise effectively
  • Commercially aware
There is the potential for the role to progress to senior management for the right candidate. They offer a 4-day working week from 7.15am to 5.30pm, Monday to Thursday. The salary, depending on experience, will be £40k - £43kpa.

They are currently seeking an Estimator who could come from a cabinet making, design or technical background within a similar industry. You will be assisting and supporting the sales team in preparing estimates and quotations to meet company and client objectives of specification, quality, cost and timescale. This is a central role within the business, and you will need to build and maintain good relationships across all departments, providing clear and robust information to support business decision making. 
 
Key Responsibilities for the Estimator include to: 
  • Create detailed quotation documents for the Sales Team, using their custom Excel quoting system. 
  • Develop and foster relationships with Key Cabinet Makers to assist in estimating hours. 
  • Input making, finishing, site installation hours and all materials required for the project. 
  • Liaise with both internal and external suppliers to obtain prices to enable accurate quotations. 
  • Develop good relationships with suppliers and other subcontractors. 
  • Review contracts prior to agreement to check that it reflects the estimate.
  • Providing detailed handovers to the design team and workshop.
  • Close liaison with the workshop, providing information of jobs won and programme for the production schedule, ensuring fit with production capacity. 
  • Providing information to the finance team for project valuations and evaluations.  
Skills and Experience needed from the Estimator:
  • Industry knowledge of Furniture and Joinery design 
  • Good commercial awareness 
  • Microsoft Office and Excel Advanced 
  • Numerate and organised

Main Responsibilities include:
  • Produce detailed specification and construction drawings of scenic elements, using CAD, Photoshop and/or manual drawing skills as appropriate

  • Liaise with Technical Manager & production team to discuss costings approach and verify detail.

THE ROLE

We are looking for a creative, highly organised individual to be responsible for designing and managing a number of concurrently running manufacturing projects from the enquiry stage, right through to completion, as well as managing project costs, estimates, client communication and bespoke drawings. 

MAIN FUNCTION OF THE ROLE

  • As a Designer you will be designing and managing manufacturing projects from enquiry stage through to completion. This will involve being the main point of contact for the client / production team and occasionally sub-contractors. You will be responsible for the issue of project programme information to all parties
  • The Design element to the role is key. You will be creating client drawings for bespoke lighting, hardware, and furniture projects, working to tight deadlines. Good time management is important as you will need to juggle multiple tasks and projects
  • You will also be responsible for monitoring project costs. You may also be required to estimate costings for bespoke enquiries, working with the Design Coordinator to agree when a costing / estimate should be expected and to ensure that the information provided in estimates and sales orders is accurate 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE

  • Creation of client and production drawings using SolidWorks CAD software
  • Working closely with the Production Engineering Manager and production staff to ensure that the design uses the most appropriate materials / finishes and production processes, whilst also meeting the client’s expectations and project budget
  • Liaising with the workshop and subcontractors to arrange material samples for the client’s approval
  • Project research and development should be recorded to allow R&D reports to be created. It may be necessary for Designers to attend R&D meetings to discuss projects
  • Project Management
  • Maintaining a consistent approach with the communication between the design team and the production team
  • Monitoring project costs
  • Work closely with the Dispatch Manager to schedule the delivery / shipping of bespoke projects 

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE

  • Proven relevant experience
  • Accomplished SolidWorks user
  • Experience in project managing bespoke design projects
  • Client-facing experience with high-end clientele
  • Experience working with suppliers and subcontractors
  • Comfortable monitoring project costs and schedules
  • Experience with lighting and furniture design / manufacture preferred
