SMC are looking for a Senior Interior Designer and Project Manager to expand their current creative team as client work load increases.

As a Senior Interior Designer / Project Manager you would have successfully lead a team from inception to completion for a period of 10 years, demonstrating your proven skills at delivering exceptional design, with experience of working on site. Educated to degree or diploma level, applicable knowledge of project management methodologies would be advantageous.

Skills:

  • Ability to create and develop conceptual designs including the skill of using colour and texture
  • Advanced skills in VectorWorks, Photoshop, SketchUp and MS Office
  • Knowledge of FF&E selection (materials, finishes, detailing and scheduling)
  • Experience in using CAD software fluently
  • Some knowledge of Studio software would be advantageous
  • Self-confident and receptive to constructive feedback
  • Ability to manage time, generate/manage schedules and work flow of projects efficiently
  • Quality experience dealing with contractors and sub-teams on site including Architects and Engineers
  • Excellent communication skills including verbal, written and visual
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Ability to understand and generate plans creatively
  • Familiar with project reporting and documentation requirements
  • Good communication skills and ability to present at a high level

Responsibilities:

  • Managing a project efficiently, to program and budget
  • Managing and briefing design team on live projects, including control and sign-off of their project time logs and attendance
  • Mentoring and assisting junior and middleweight designers
  • Managing the procurement of FF&E products
  • Building and growing existing client relationships
  • Visualisation and explanation of concepts to others
  • Developing detailed designs and choosing materials
  • Working closely with the director and associates, you are expected to use your initiative on following up on new business opportunities and attend networking events within the industry
  • Going to site and working closely with sub-contractors and clients
  • Accountable for project deliverables and the approval of project output

SMC Design are now recruiting for a Midweight FF&E Interior Designer with 2-3 years' FF&E experience to join our team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic and creative FF&E Designer to work on high-end marine interior design projects, liaising with suppliers and working to a client's needs and aspirations. Project involvement is from conception through to completion, and the candidate will join projects at a variety of stages along the way to form this dynamic and fast-paced role.

Experience in delivering FF&E packages for large-scale commercial projects (eg hotels/cruise ships) is essential, as well as impeccable organisational, research and communication skills.

The ideal candidate must be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Proficiency in Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Excel, and confidence in using an Apple Mac computer. Familiarity with navigating VectorWorks is a bonus but not essential.
  • An extensive understanding of finishes, furniture and lighting, with a fantastic eye for the finer details.
  • Experience completing specifications to a high standard of clarity.
  • An ability to interpret a brief and design schemes for a wide variety of clients tastes, brand identities or requirements.
  • An ability to research for and create strong mood boards.
  • An ability to create sample boards for client presentations.
  • An ability to work as part of a larger team, but also independently on projects where required.
  • An ability to hit the ground running and be self motivated, supported by their previous experience taking ownership of the FF&E on projects.
  • Excellent written, visual and verbal communication skills, for succinctly communicating concepts and information to a variety of people involved in the project: in house, external 3D visual artists, clients and contractors. Strong English is essential.

A new opening has just arisen for a Team Leader although they might consider a midweight/senior designer looking to progress. The overall responsibility will be for the design department including the following points:

  • Fostering teamwork and collaboration within the design department through involvement of all team members in running the department
  • Improving design detailing by improving the speed through the department and the quality of detailing for the manufacturing team to work to
  • Maintaining work schedules for the team and advising adjacent teams of progress as requested
  • Providing both formal and informal feedback to team members
  • Collaborating with project managers, operations management and technical designers to prioritise workload on a weekly basis

Person / Experience Required:

  • Experience working with Solid Edge 3D design software (or similar such as SolidWorks)

The ideal candidate will be university qualified with an art or design related degree. Professional Interior design experience is essential, preferably from a show home background. They are currently seeking an experienced and professional Production Engineer to be responsible for taking 2D design drawings and preparing manufacturing and purchasing drawings for the workshop, subcontract makers and fitters.

Responsibilities include:

  • Liaising with clients and design/production team regarding design issues
  • Production of cutting lists for the purchase of sheet material
  • Production of accurate shopping lists for the purchase of appliances
  • Production of site installation drawings detailing precise position of furniture within site boundaries
  • Provision of technical assistance to fitting teams during both assembly and installation
  • Contributing to the regular design team meetings, including participation and suggestions as to team improvement
  • Discussions with suppliers of timber and hardware to ensure that the correct materials are used to both fit the design brief and the cost bill

Person / Experience Required:

  • AutoCAD and Microsoft Office is needed, Woodwork for Inventor experience desirable
  • Cabinetmaking background and/or a good understanding of manufacturing and assembly processes, materials selection and presentation
  • Able to work from drawings and specification sheets and able to interpret technical requirements and design briefs
  • Experience of site surveying
  • Knowledge of period architectural styles, building techniques and mouldings would be an advantage
  • An understanding of mechanical and electrical services required to be connected to fitted furniture, kitchens, and bathrooms
